Is Brooklyn In The House?

April 7, 2017

Who is the newest member of the Brooklyn Brewery?

This girl!

          Me…Flying out!

I had THE most epic time, this past weekend. I indulged in so much delicious beer, I need to dry out. *I’m not kidding.* They treat you RIGHT at the Brooklyn Brewery.  So this is a quick recap of what the weekend entailed. I was BUSYBUSYBUSY. They had us from morning ’till night but it felt like the weekend just flew by! Probably because it was fun, informative and we tried a million different beers…like they were going out of style…did I mention that?

Thursday

I flew in Thursday morning and hit the ground running. I met up with another rep from Flint, (Rose, who is super cool) whom I had been previously texting and her, a few other girls she met and I all went off to find the brewery and get a bite to eat.

People in the beer industry are hella cool and we had a ball immediately.

My “bite to eat” Bacon and a Bloody Mary.

This is Rose. From Flint. Yes with the “water”.

Steve Hindy Owner Brooklyn Brewery

After lunch, we headed to the Brooklyn Brewery, where we (got beer) were introduced to Miss Gabe and Ben (EA’s for BB) and they, in turn, introduced the owner, Steve Hindy.  His memories blew my mind. He has a very storied past and was an excellent storyteller. I was completely sucked in.  He was a foreign journalist in a previous life and was behind Anwar Sadat when he was assassinated!

      Miss Gabe at Spuyten Duyvil.

   “Framboisie” and “Quintaceratops”

We then headed over to Spuyten Duyvil for…you guessed it…beer.

After our ‘welcome beer, after the pre-welcome beer’, we walked to Extra Fancy to eat dinner and socialize before a packed weekend of learning about the brewery.

          Toasting with BB Summer Ale

Friday
BOOM! The Beer Education & Community Ambassador Miss Gabe is LIFE!  She took us from point A to point Z with flair, pizazz and knowledge. I want to be her when I grow up. We took a tour of the brewery and of course…we had beer!

I could tell that everyone at the brewery were THILLED to be working there and that sh!t is infectious. As I walked through, a guy was playing Biggie. No joke. Brooklyn to the SOUL!

My biggest thrill??? I got to meet Garrett Oliver, the Master of Brewmasters ANNNND he signed my book!

We had an off-flavor tasting and a beer tasting (SURPRISE) and they pulled out some doozies!  Peep THIS!

Sorachi Plum (Not Sold in Stores)

The Crew drinking Raspberry Sour deliciousness on the bus.

Saturday

We actually went on a pub crawl for training. I’m not sh..I mean kidding you!

It was a huge party bus and we took it there! They gave us en experimental Raspberry Sour while we were traveling and that mess was so tasty, I could have swallowed my tongue.
Brooklyn Brewery wanted to spread the love and show us that we are in this together! So we hit some outer borough spots and let the love flow!

We visited…

LIC…Not drinking a stout.

Finback…drinking a stout.

KCBC…drinking a stout.

LIC, Finback, KCBC and Interboro. The time was rad. Yes, I said “rad” because that is the only word that fits this epic time.

Sunday
The crew had brunch at the very cool Roebling Tea Room but I had to fly home at 6am for another job (when it rains it pours). This weekend will be remembered and cherished and I’m excited to see all of my new Brooklyn Brewery friends again soon!

Beer Mansion here I come!

Cheers!

Pregnant? Good! Let Me Be the First to Insult You!

April 1, 2016

“The mob is fickle brother.”

-Gladiator

Only a few more weeks left in my first pregnancy and I have had this ever-growing need to write about all of the shi$$y things people have said to me throughout my term. I’m writing this because people are clearly not cognizant about what comes out of their mouths. (Or maybe they are??? Who knows?)  Anywho, I figured you guys would get a kick outta reading what people have said to me.  Grab the Visine, as there will be some hard eye-rolling going on as you read.

My initial statement or the “theme” of the comments are in BOLD and the replies from people are in ITALIC.  Try to hold yourself back from stating it is more about MY hormones or ME being sensitive because if you know me, even a little, you know I’m not an overly sensitive person….even being pregnant.

These are all actual comments verbatim and in chronological order that I, at first, blew off but then realized they were all filed away in my “File Cabinet for Pettiness” and I needed to share them with the world because…the cabinet is FULL!   If you recognize a statement you said here, Petty LaBelle, no need to get in your feelings about it…just do better next time with the next pregnant lady you encounter. *sideeye*

Let’s quit wasting time and get into it shall we?

20 U.S. Breweries You Should At Least Visit Once

January 28, 2016

Where have I been the past couple of weeks??? WORKING!  This blog does not pay my bills…or even cover a stick of gum.  So, I had to head on down to the North American International Autoshow for a week and THEN work the stroll on “The Great White Way” aka New York for another week.  More importantly, I had to go out and MAKE SOME MONEY! Pimpin’ aint easy.

What I was NOT doing was hitting these amazing breweries listed. I have, however; been to and thoroughly enjoyed 4 on the list…Russian River, Cigar City, New Belgium and Tired Hands.  New Belgium was my favorite. The facility is massive and super cool.  The people are fun, laid back and super cool. And the beer is delicious and…you know…super cool.

This picture is actually from Oskar Blues Brewery but they are only about 50 minutes away so I visited both. If you are in the area DO IT!

OK. Enough about me. Lets get to the list. Let me know which ones you have gone to and your thoughts on the brewery AND their beer. I’d love to hear your likes and dislikes. Click on the frame below to get to the good stuff…

Satisfying Stouts Saturate The Superior State or “My List Of Top MI Stouts”

January 8, 2016

I almost can’t believe it. Am I an idiot or what? This question is PURELY rhetorical. Don’t send me private messages agreeing with me.

It’s January and I have NOT put out “My List of Top Michigan Stouts!

Who am I?

Because it’s already January AND most Stout Weeks have come and gone AND most of you have already drank your little heart’s desire of stouts this season…I will make this brief. I love my stouts like I love my men…meaty and not too sweet (don’t ask)…so you won’t see many milk stouts on here.  Imperial and Bourbon Barrels are my favs so this list will be heavy on those. This list is not in order of importance…I love them all equally.  Let’s start the show…

Those 6 little words are the only ones you need to know for complete joy and pure happiness. If you EVER get a chance to wrap your lips around this luscious, creamy, bitter, toasty, nectar of the gods…then you have finally reached nirvana. Don’t I LOOK happy???

Christmas Cookies and Winter Beer: A Sugar Buzz Awaits

December 25, 2015

Merry Christmas All!!!

Now that it is Christmas Day, you will have TONS of leftover homemade cookies for the next few days and what is a great way to GET THEM IN YOUR BELLY??  Wash them down with beer!

The holidays are that time when you…yes, even you…actually make desserts from scratch…you lazy bum.  Nothing is better than freshly made holiday cookies, cakes and pies.  Well…freshly made holiday cookies, cakes and pies that have been paired with beer!  So, I picked three beers that are super varied and three cookies that are divine right out of the oven. We all have different palates so, like most of my pairings, I pick what I like. If you happen to have a problem with an ingredient or beer or beer parent company or even the actual pairing itself…I really can’t help you.  Open your mind and try it and if you don’t like it…try it again! Make this the year you step outside of your comfort zone and try some new and different in beer and food…you’ll be pleasantly surprised…or not.

Note: I have never had any of the store-bought versions of the paired cookies below, only homemade ones, so I’m unsure how the store bought ones really rate. I’m just trying to be extra helpful for you folks that are oven-phobic.

Let’s get started!
